Rotary International

Logo0910Rotary is a worldwide organisation of business and professional people that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and helps build goodwill and peace in the world.

Clubs may differ from each other in demographic terms, meeting times and venues, but all have the same aims of making the world a better place, locally and internationally, while at the same time strengthening established friendships and creating new ones.

Each President of Rotary International selects a theme for the year they hold that office.  RI President John Kenny's 2009/10 theme is designed to concentrate efforts towards securing Rotary's future through growth and management of projects both locally and well "beyond the parish pump" that would falter should Rotary's future falter.

Rotary District 9810

District 9810 lies to the east of the Melbourne Central Business District. The district boundaries encompass parts of the eastern and south eastern suburbs of Melbourne and then stretch eastward through the Yarra Valley and the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. At approximately 3200 square kilometres, District 9810 is one of the smallest in area of the 23 Districts in Australia.

From Port Phillip Bay to the Ranges, District 9810 stretches from the southwest corner at Hampton to Chelsea along the bay, moves north east from Hampton to Templestowe, and then east across to Healesville, south to Upper Yarra, and meander west through the hills to Monbulk and Emerald. Moving south west through Rowville you end up back in Chelsea! You've just travelled about 200 kilometres and probably passed our District Governor somewhere on the road! There are currently 50 Rotary clubs in District 9810 and we have about 1350 Rotarians involved in all areas of Rotary service.

ROTARY ACTION GROUPS

A Rotarian Action Group (RAG) is a voluntary association of Rotarians who unite themselves for the purpose of conducting international service projects that advance the Object of Rotary.  Comprised of individual Rotarians, spouses, Rotaractors and friends from around the world, RAGs are a relatively new feature of Rotary life.

The aim of Rotarian Action Groups is to develop a worldwide network of persons with a common interest in a specific humanitarian cause who will work together proactively on projects of international and local
scopes.  Any Rotarian interested in the work of any RAG is invited to visit their website, use their references and other materials and consider becoming a member.

You can link to a document summarising a number of things that can be done under RAGs at this following link
